Characterization of vancomycin resistance in Enterococcus faecium and Enterococcus faecalis.
Vancomycin resistance in Enterococcus faecium 180, a clinical isolate from England, was studied. Resistance to vancomycin was transferable by conjugation to other enterococci. Expression of resistance was inducible and coincided with the appearance of a new membrane protein.
متن کاملThe Inhibitory Effect of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG on Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus faecalis Colonization in Mouse
Background&Aims: Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) are among the most common nosocomial pathogens worldwide. The intestinal tract provides a major source for transmission of these bacteria. Probiotics are living microorganisms that moderate use of them has inhibitory effect on intestinal colonization by enteric pathogens. We examined the effect of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) on inhibi...

criteria, and exclusion criteria available from the author). The quality of these studies is quite variable, and quality is certainly more important than quantity. Most trials of the newer agents were designed and funded by industry. In general, ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin have been studied in patient populations with more severe illnesses, including nosocomial infections, than the newer qui...
متن کاملVanD-type vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium and Enterococcus faecalis.
Enterococcus faecium clinical isolates A902 and BM4538, which were resistant to relatively high levels of vancomycin (128 and 64 microg/ml, respectively) and to low levels of teicoplanin (4 microg/ml), and Enterococcus faecalis clinical isolates BM4539 and BM4540, which were resistant to moderate levels of vancomycin (16 microg/ml) and susceptible to teicoplanin (0.25 microg/ml), were studied. ...
متن کاملvanE gene cluster of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis BM4405.
Acquired VanE-type resistance to low levels of vancomycin (MIC = 16 microg/ml) in Enterococcus faecalis BM4405 is due to the inducible synthesis of peptidoglyean precursors terminating in D-alanine-D-serine (Fines,M., B. Prichon, P. Reynolds, D. Sahm, and P. Courvalin, Antimicrob. Agents Chemother. 43:2161-2164, 1999). A chromosomal location was assigned to the vanE operon by pulsed-field gel e...
